More than 6,000 km of National Highways have been constructed in Tamil Nadu connecting various districts and neighboring states. There are a total of 49 Tolls posts. Of these, the tariff hike at 27 Tolls posts came into effect from early morning. Accordingly Tindivanam - Attur, Pogalur, Poothakudi, Chennasamudram, Chittampatti, Ettoor Circle, Kaniyur, Kappalur, Keelkuppam, Krishnagiri, Lembalakudi, Letsumanapatti, Mathur, Nallur, Nanguneri, Sriperumbudur, Pallikonda, Parankurai, Paranur .Puram, Chalaiputhur, Shenbagampettai, Surapattu, Tiruppachetty, Vanakaram, Vaniyambadi toll booths have been implemented.

Extra load Motorists at these toll plazas have been paying extra fares since midnight. Petrol and diesel prices have already been rising for the past few days. It was during this time that Tolls duties also increased. This is likely to place an additional burden on motorists.

Motorists and the public have demanded that the tariff hike be reversed. Earlier, Union Road Safety and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari had told Parliament a few days ago that only one toll plaza was operating within 60 km of the state. But this work has not yet begun. As a result, the work of removing 16 toll plazas in Tamil Nadu has not started yet, according to the State Highways Department.
